Our $500 Sweepstakes Winner: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago!

bbbsBig Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) has done it again! For the second month in a row, the non-profit is one of our sweepstakes winners!

This time, the Chicago chapter has won $500. BBBS of Metropolitan Chicago is the city’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network. It matches adult volunteers (“Bigs”) with youth (“Littles”) for one-on-one mentoring. Sessions generally occur 2-4 times a month either on-site or in the local community. Over time, these sessions increase the odds that “Littles” will succeed in school, avoid violence and illegal activities, and build stronger relationships with their parents and peers.

BBBS Chicago is one of 14 Big Brother Big Sister chapters partnered with Op4G. Combined, these chapters have 2,521 Op4G members who have donated over $30,957! If you are interested in “helping every child reach their potential”, consider supporting BBBS through Op4G today!

Op4G Volunteer of the Month: Roxanne Splett-Young!

schoolOp4G would like to recognize Roxanne Splett-Young, a sweepstakes winner! Thanks to Roxanne, the Northgate PTA received all funds donated to the “non-profit of the month” in April.

The Northgate PTA is the Parent Teacher Association for the Northgate Elementary School in Seattle, Washington. Roxanne selected Northgate PTA as her non-profit of choice as it was a “great and easy way” to support her daughter’s school. This support, she felt, was especially important given recent funding cuts and the school’s high percentage of ESL students and free/reduced lunches.

Roxanne first learned about Op4G from a fellow member of the PTA. She joined the Op4G panel shortly thereafter, in late 2010. Since then, Roxanne has earned approximately $100 for the Northgate PTA and has encouraged the entire association to join. In her view, “Programs like Op4G are great because there is no cost for families and yet there can be a return… It is easy and you can decide how time consuming it will be”.

In addition to donating through Op4G, Roxanne volunteers for the Northgate Reads program. She also supports the PTA of her children’s current school. Congratulations again to Roxanne Splett-Young!

Op4G's $500 Sweepstakes Winner: Newmarket Community Education Partnership!

8Op4G congratulates our $500 sweepstakes winner for April, the Newmarket Community Education Partnership (NCEP)! The NCEP was conceived in 2004 by a group of women concerned about education in Newmarket, NH. The women wanted to start a non-profit that would enhance social and recreational opportunities for the children and youth in Newmarket, especially those “on the fringes”.

With $10,000 in start-up funding, the NCEP was born. Since then, the non-profit has awarded over $60,000 in grants and scholarships to Newmarket schools and the recreation center.

These grants have funded a wide range of activities. They have funded learning equipment for children with and without disabilities, upgrading the technology of Newmarket schools. They have covered three room renovations in the JR/SR High School, including the Teachers Room, the ESL Room and the Special Education Room. Furthermore, a generous grant from the Love Foundation has allowed over 60 low-income children to attend summer camp and enjoy a “summer filled with friends, adventures, field trips and the outdoors”.

Op4G's $500 Sweepstakes Winner: JDRF San Diego!

Op4G is proud to announce that JDFR San Diego is our $500 sweepstakes winner! JDRF San Diego is the San Diego chapter of JDRF, the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Its goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until a world without T1D is achieved. T1D is a disease in which the body’s autoimmune system attacks and kills the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas. Those with T1D are therefore unable to produce insulin naturally and must inject themselves with the hormone 2 – 3 times daily to stay alive. Long term consequences of this disease include kidney damage, blindness, heart disease and amputations.

Currently, the JDFR organization funds $530 million worth of T1D research across 17 countries. Locally in San Diego, JDRF is funding $8.5 million in T1D research at institutions such as UCSD, The Salk Institute, and The La Jolla Institute for Allergy & Immunology. In addition to funding research, JDRF supports and educates those dealing with the challenges of T1D through support and mentor groups in San Diego and Southern Riverside counties. Op4G's Member of the Month: June Mohn!

Op4G congratulates June Mohn, our Member of the Month for February 2013! June’s name was randomly selected during our monthly sweepstakes, earning $500 for her choice non-profit: Junior Achievement of Dallas!

June became an Op4G panelist approximately 3 years ago at the encouragement of Junior Achievement of Dallas, an Op4G partner. She was pleased to support JA of Dallas, as the non-profit greatly helped her son during high school. She also admired its work providing business education to students across the United States.

Since joining, June has completed 2-3 Op4G surveys per month for Junior Achievement of Dallas. In her experience, Op4G “handles everything efficiently” and “doesn’t waster her time”. Furthermore, Op4G surveys ask “good questions” and allow her to reflect on her purchasing habits and activities.

Again, congratulations to Op4G member, June Mohn! We appreciate your membership and support of our non-profit partner!
